Salute has signed a landmark, multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnership with UHP – a veteran-focused education and leadership development organization based on an 800-acre campus in Northwest Arkansas – to create a first-of-its-kind talent pipeline into the data center industry.
The partnership targets the recruitment of 10,000 military veterans over the next few years into high-value commissioning and operations careers – directly addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the global data center market: the critical shortage of skilled, mission-ready technical talent.
A New Pathway for Military Veterans into Data Center Careers
As investment in AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, the demand for technically proficient data center professionals is outpacing supply at an unprecedented rate. Traditional recruiting pipelines were not built for this. This partnership is.
UHP will design and operate a bespoke training program in Arkansas, built from the ground up to Salute’s technical specifications, with an initial throughput target of 100 veterans per month. The programme will focus primarily on Navy nuclear-trained personnel – operators of mission-critical systems in the most demanding environments on earth – as well as veterans with mechanical, electrical, operations, and project management backgrounds.
Upon completing UHP’s foundational HVAC and electrical training, graduates will feed directly into Salute University, Salute’s dedicated training and certification platform, where they will pursue either a Commissioning (Cx) or Facility Management and Operations (FM&O) track before deployment to Salute’s customers across hyperscale, colocation, emerging AI cloud, and new AI data center entrants.
Training Veterans for Data Center Careers, at Scale
Salute has already trained more than 10,000 military veterans and individuals from non-traditional backgrounds for careers in the data center industry – a track record built over more than a decade under the leadership of CEO Erich Sanchack, a former U.S. Marine.
“Our talent development strategy has always been about creating net-new talent for the digital infrastructure industry,” said Sanchack. “For more than a decade, we’ve helped veterans and individuals from non-traditional backgrounds build meaningful careers supporting the backbone of the modern economy. Partnering with UHP takes that mission into a completely new era.”
“For too many veterans leaving military service, there remains no clear pathway into the industries helping shape America’s future. Together with UHP, we’re creating opportunities for veterans, strengthening communities, creating highly skilled jobs, and building the workforce that will support America’s digital future for decades to come.”
Matt Hesse, Army veteran and founder of UHP, added: “At UHP, we are focused on workforce development that delivers outcomes, with accountability on both sides of the partnership, and a shared goal of improving veterans’ lives.”
Former Chief Technical Officer for the Navy, Captain David Britt, also lent his voice to the announcement: “This partnership helps our dedicated veterans translate those technical capabilities into careers that support innovation and strengthen the digital infrastructure that powers our economy, government, and communities.”
Solving the Data Center Industry’s Veteran Talent Gap
The US data center market is projected to reach $494 billion by 2031. The facilities underpinning that growth – running cloud services, AI workloads, healthcare systems, and financial networks – require a highly skilled workforce capable of operating complex, mission-critical environments where failure is not an option.
That describes military veterans precisely.
Salute works with 80% of the world’s data center operators and is the recognised leader in providing the full lifecycle of services – from advise and design through to commissioning, operations, and refresh. This partnership extends that leadership into the human capital dimension, creating a sustainable, scalable workforce pipeline that the industry has never had before.
