From classroom to critical infrastructure: The power of early career investment

As digital demand rises, so does the need for skilled professionals who can keep pace with change – technically, sustainably, and globally. Yet, like many industries that rely on specialist expertise, data centres face a growing challenge: bringing new talent into the fold in a way that’s practical, scalable, and future-focused.

Just as we’ve supported thousands of veterans on their transition into the data centre industry, we’re applying the same model to early-career professionals. Through structured apprenticeships, we offer real-world experience from day one – combining hands-on work, expert mentorship, and exposure to industry-leading projects.

Spotlight: Joe Bannister’s apprenticeship journey

Joe Bannister joined Keysource in 2024 as an Apprentice Data Analyst and Software Engineer. Since Keysource became a part of the Salute family earlier this year, Joe has continued to build on that strong foundation – now working as part of a larger, global team with expanded opportunities to grow and contribute.

So far in his role, Joe has contributed to initiatives across automation, energy optimisation, and AI. He’s helped design tools that improve processes and insights across the business, all while continuing formal education as part of the UK’s apprenticeship model.

“Looking back, it’s been a year full of growth, challenges, and opportunities that I’ll always value. I’ve been trusted to take ownership, present my work, and contribute to projects that really matter. The support from my team has been huge, they’ve helped me grow in confidence and always encouraged me to bring ideas forward.”

Joe’s passion for technology began in a school computer science class, but what drew him to the data centre industry was its global relevance and the chance to work on smarter, more sustainable solutions. That purpose still drives him – and his journey shows how an apprenticeship at Salute can turn early potential into real-world impact.

Building careers that power the industry

In a field where complexity grows by the day, we’re intentional about making careers in data centres more accessible, practical, and aligned with real opportunities.

People like Joe represent the future of the data centre industry, showing what is possible when early-career professionals are given the right foundation.

“Joe’s progress over the past year has been remarkable,” says Chris West, Director of Service Portfolio- EMEA.  “I’m really impressed by the focus and maturity that he’s brought to every task. His journey is a great example of how well-structured apprenticeship programmes can cultivate the next generation of data centre professionals – and a testament to the passion and commitment Salute brings to making that happen.”

Whether you’re just starting your career or looking for a hands-on way to develop technical skills, we’re creating space for you to learn, contribute, and lead.
